Carpet is a great flooring option for your home because it is soft, comfortable and beautiful. Unfortunately, carpet doesn't last forever, and will eventually need to be replaced. Deciding the right time to replace it is often the hardest part. Here are some different signs that let you know it is time to replace your carpet.
You Need to Cover Wear and Tear
If you have noticed that you are starting to find more ways to over different spots of your carpet you don't like, then it might be time to replace them. Wear and tear on carpets happens gradually, and you may not notice it for a while. Then suddenly, you are increasing how many rugs you have, or trying to get more furniture to cover various tears or rips. This is a big sign it is time to replace it. You may notice fading in the walkways that get used the most, matting in certain areas, or fraying of the edges near the walls. All of this should give you a good reason to get new carpet installed.
There Are Multiple Stains
It is impossible to avoid getting stains in your carpet, no matter what methods you use to remove them or how many times you clean your carpet. The carpet is going to be walked on and used, and drinks, food, nail polish, or dirt will eventually cause staining. Eventually, you may come to a point where the stains are too noticeable, or difficult to cover. If you are no longer able to hide the stains because they are growing in quantity, it is a good time to replace your carpet. When there are pet stains, such as urine or feces, you need to get new carpets because this could lead to health concerns if it happens often.
You Can Smell a Distinctive Odor
Are you able to smell the carpet's various odors from all the things that have spilled on it? If you have gotten your carpets cleaned recently, but you can still smell cat urine, mold or mildew, then you definitely need to replace the carpets. Even if they look good on the surface, different types of liquids and spills can soak deep into the carpet padding underneath. This padding is impossible to clean unless you pull up the carpets. If there is a lot of moisture, this will lead to mold, which has a very distinctive smell. If you can't get rid of the smell, you know it is time to get new carpet.
You Have Allergy Problems
If you, your family, or your pets are struggling with allergies more now than you used to, it might be due to your carpet. Older carpet tends to retain more of the pet dander, dust mites, and other allergens that can get caught in the fibers. Even with regular vacuuming and steam cleaning, you might not be able to get rid of them entirely. When your allergies become a problem, consider getting new carpet.

When my husband and I took our "second honeymoon," we stayed at a glorious resort with an on-site spa. We booked couples' packages for massages and other treatments. When we got home, we decided our bathroom was not nearly as soothing or peaceful as it could be. Armed with inspiration from our visit to the spa, we ripped out the existing vanity, tub, toilet, and other fixtures, and replaced them with more spa-like models. A frameless shower door and a quartz-topped vanity were two of the best decisions we ever made. If you want to enjoy a day at the spa—without actually leaving your home—I hope you will use the information on this blog to make it happen for your family.
