3 Tips For Safely Storing Heavy Loads On Your Pallet Racks

Construction & Contractors Blog

Pallet racks do a hard job in any industrial setting, such as in a factory. They often get beat up by forklifts and other equipment that is used for loading, and they often carry very heavy loads. Some pallet racks do carry heavier loads than others, and if you have a lot of heavy items to store in your warehouse or other industrial setting, you should make sure that your pallet racks can handle them. These are a few tips that can help you safely store heavy loads on your pallet racks.

1. Strengthen Your Floor

One step that many people don't think about until it's too late is ensuring that the floor is strong enough to hold the heavy pallet racks and the heavy loads that are placed on top of them. You may need to pour additional concrete on hard flooring or add strengthening beams underneath wooden floors to ensure that they won't collapse once a heavy load has been placed on top.

2. Check Weight Ratings

All pallet racks look strong, but some are stronger than others and are designed for heavier-duty use. It's best to check the weight ratings for the pallet racking systems that you are thinking about purchasing; then, do the math to determine whether or not they will hold the heavy loads that you are planning on putting on them. It's best to err on the side of caution in this circumstance and to purchase heavier-duty shelving than you think you need. Also, when you are doing the math, make sure that you include things like the beams that are used on your pallet racks, since they will count against the weight limit as well.

3. Always Connect Pallet Racks to the Floor During Installation

Make sure that your pallet racks are secured directly to the floor when you install them. Otherwise, you will not be able to count on them to hold their full capacity, no matter what their weight rating might be. Plus, they can be more likely to topple over if they are struck by a forklift during loading.

Pallet racks are designed to do a tough job, but some of them are tougher than others. Plus, the way that they are installed in your factory or warehouse matters, too. If you follow these three tips when choosing, installing and storing heavy loads, however, you shouldn't have to worry about them not being able to handle all of the weight and pressure.

On another note, if you need to purchase new pallet racks for your warehouse, contact a manufacturer like Certified Handling Systems.

Bringing the Spa Home

When my husband and I took our "second honeymoon," we stayed at a glorious resort with an on-site spa. We booked couples' packages for massages and other treatments. When we got home, we decided our bathroom was not nearly as soothing or peaceful as it could be. Armed with inspiration from our visit to the spa, we ripped out the existing vanity, tub, toilet, and other fixtures, and replaced them with more spa-like models. A frameless shower door and a quartz-topped vanity were two of the best decisions we ever made. If you want to enjoy a day at the spa—without actually leaving your home—I hope you will use the information on this blog to make it happen for your family.
