How Do Roofs Get Damaged?

Construction & Contractors Blog

Most people don't give a lot of thought to their roofs, at least not until something goes wrong. However, you should really think of your roof as an important part of your home, one that demands regular care and vigilance.

Even the best roofs can easily succumb to one of the common causes of roofing damage. Thus, for this reason, you must educate yourself on these causes. From there, you can more carefully guard and protect your roof and ensure it stays damage-free or, at the least, ensure that any issues are caught and fixed quickly, before they have the chance to cause more serious damage.

Lack Of Maintenance

One of the most common reasons that roofs fall victim to damage is due to a simple lack of maintenance. Even the most high-quality roofs will sometimes run into problems, such as leaks or missing shingles. If you inspect your roof regularly, you should catch these problems easily and fix them before they grow worse. If you are not having regular inspections performed, however, you might miss little issues and then end up with major repairs. Thus, get your roof set up on a regular schedule of checks and maintenance visits as advised by a roofing professional.

Fallen Tree Limbs

Do you have large trees around your home? If so, you should know that in the event of heavy winds or a storm, you could end up with a branch, leaves, or just general tree debris on your roof. This debris can easily cause punctures, leaks, and other problems. Thus, try and keep your trees trimmed to avoid this issue. And, if you're already experiencing it, repair the damage and then think about removing the trees to avoid further complications.

Heavy Snow And Ice

If you live in an area that gets a lot of snow, be aware that excess snowfall can affect your roof negatively. When snow melts on top of your roof, the icy particles may get underneath your shingles, which can eventually cause them to lift and even fall off over time, leaving your roof vulnerable and weak. Clean your roof regularly after a snowy season, and always have your roof inspected soon after heavy snowfall.

These are just a few of many potential causes of roof damage. However, by guarding against these and other risks, know that you can do a lot to protect your roof and to increase its overall longevity. Reach out to a company like Liberty Exteriors LLC for more information.

Bringing the Spa Home

When my husband and I took our "second honeymoon," we stayed at a glorious resort with an on-site spa. We booked couples' packages for massages and other treatments. When we got home, we decided our bathroom was not nearly as soothing or peaceful as it could be. Armed with inspiration from our visit to the spa, we ripped out the existing vanity, tub, toilet, and other fixtures, and replaced them with more spa-like models. A frameless shower door and a quartz-topped vanity were two of the best decisions we ever made. If you want to enjoy a day at the spa—without actually leaving your home—I hope you will use the information on this blog to make it happen for your family.
